Kai Campbell, Owner of The Yard and The Walla in Newark, NJ
Kai Campbell didn't plan to open a burger joint in Newark, NJ. In fact, you could say he did plan on improving his community. It turns out, a lot of bigger chains, and companies, were not as invested in his opening quality food spots in his city. So, in order to level up the neighborhood, Kai opened more than one foodservice business.
Now, Kai has his hands full. A first burger spot (with one of the best lamb burgers we've EVER had) and since then, two more food service businesses. All within blocks within Newark. He talked to us about where the drive to be in foodservice, when it was never part of the original plan, comes from.
